Your fingers brush the monochrome keys with grace, slowed from their usual upbeat tempo. your head was hung low, [e/c] eyes closed in shame and sadness. Your [h/l], [h/c] hair was in a slightly unkempt manner, as if you wouldn't bother. Which...was correct.
It all fell apart since the day he died. The voices that usually whispered in your head, now screaming and pounding against your skull, were driving you to the brink of insanity. Sometimes, you'd hear him... His angelic, yet devilish voice that was always chuckling and scoffing playfully at words you had long forgotten, frightened that you might forget him along with his sounds.
Tears filled the lower rim of your eyes as the keys blurred together, mixing to create a soft grey look. It was all the same, as he said. you can still remember the look on his face when you said you wanted to marry him. It was full of shock, joy, and care.
Tears, flowing and smooth against your cheeks, hit your jeans, making you sniff away the sadness and continue the notes. As you continued, you swore you heard the voice of someone you longed to hold. To cherish...to love.
"That's it, [Name]. Keep going." With the courage of a million people, you press forward, playing a song you can no longer remember the meaning of. "You're doing great!"
You want to stop and turn around, or at least look up from the keys to see who was there. However, you couldn't. It seemed nearly impossible. The notes strayed from your mind and off your fingertips with a feline grace. A smile attempted to reach your face, but was met with past sorrow.
"Come on, [Name]. Where's that award winning smile I saw at your last pageant?" That chiding voice cooed, and you laughed, the tempo still the same however. "See I'm still here! No need to get all uptight, now is there?"
You sniffle in sadness again, knowing of your disorder causes hallucinations. "N-No...There isn't." You cease playing and the fluttering of wings take the place of the symphonic, saddening notes quickly and shortly after they exit the atmosphere. You look up from the keys now, and up where anyone would be to listen to your piano playing. Your hazy, previously dull, [e/c] eyes widen in recognition. "D-Dave...?"
A smile graces his features, wide and true. "I'm now known as Davesprite, but I guess you can call me that since you are my girlfriend." He chuckled and whistled, a crow flying in through an open window and landing on his hand as if he were real. "How are you today?"
You smile brightly in return, hiccuping. "I'm d-doing better now that you're h-here." It was a cheesy line, but you used it against him multiple times...Including the text you sent him before he crashed into the semi on High-way 46.
Going silent, his other hand lifted your chin to stare directly at him. "That accident wasn't your fault. The text could've waited for when I was at the store, but I was too anxious. Please lighten up."
You take a deep breath. Exhale~... "Of c-course Dave." You chuckle with him, setting the piano cover over the keys like you normally did, standing. "I'll see you tomorrow Dave."
"You know..." His voice softly spoke, the crow fluttering away back out of the window, closing it loudly on it's way out. "As long as you come, you don't have to play the piano. Because you're my heaven strung lullaby."
That was cheesier than your text, and you would cherish it forever.
